Hello! Welcome to For the frill of it! I’m Cristen – a small town mama that loves to blog about the people, places and things that inspire me. I’m married to Aaron, and we live in Northern California with our two girls, Kendall (4) and Charlotte (8), our boxer Laila, and our kitty Winnie. You may recognize me from my other blog, The Naptime Reviewer, where I offer reviews, life tips and more.
My Personal Style: Eclectic and Casual
It’s that certain something. A wink, a half-tuck, a just-so-rolled-sleeve kind of vibe. My style can’t be defined because, when it comes to picking out clothing, I follow my heart. It’s all about what I’m feeling in the moment (and what I have clean in my closet).
Bring on simple accessories, trending brands, and one-of-a-kind vintage finds. Casual layering, classic prints with a twist, and effortless essentials are a few of my favorite things. I dress for the person who matters — me!
Cristen at Home
When it comes to home decor, I don’t like to put myself in a “box.” Some days I want to live more simply, and other days I’m rearranging the entire house or buying new furniture. I go with the vibes that an object — a piece of furniture, artwork, or decor — gives me. Once I feel like I’ve found an object’s “home” and the vibes are good, I leave it alone for a while.
I’m currently obsessed with: Tan, green, raw wood, beach vibes + art from my travels.
What I Believe In
I believe you should live your best life every single day.
I believe your idea of your best life can change.
I believe you should be yourself, unapologetically, no matter what.
I believe you should know what you stand for, but don’t be afraid to change your opinion at times.
I believe you should try new things without fear of failure.
I believe you should forgive yourself.
Q: What is your dream job?
A: It sounds odd, but I don’t have a single dream job. I never have. I’ve always been the type of person that has to have her hands in many different projects. Sometimes I wake up with a business idea and I run with it.
Q: Why do you have 2 blogs? Wouldn’t it be easier to just merge them both?
A: The Naptime Reviewer is something I started when I first became a stay-at-home-mom. I feel like that blog is a reflection of who I was from 2012 to about 2017. For The Frill Of It is a reflection of who I am now.
Q: Do you have any advice for someone wanting to start a new blog?
A: If you have never blogged before, this is a hard market to get into right now. If you want to turn it into a career you have to put your big girl panties on and hustle. I work at least 8 hours a day and have since 2012. I wear many hats and am always ready to learn. You also need to remember to stay in your own lane.
